10 Most Wanted Pennies Of 2009

From the July 2009 issue of Coinage Magazine, I found this interesting list of the 10 most wanted Lincoln Pennies.

1.  1909-S VDB (Don't we all want one!?)

2.  1914-D (Third lowest mintage of all wheat cents)

3.  1922 Plain (Minted in Denver, some were struck with a very light D or no visable D at all, and these are refered to as 1922 "Plain")

4.  1924-D (Second lowest mintage of all wheat cents)

5.  1931-D (Low mintage due to the depression, no initial hoarding at release, so mint pieces are at a premium)

6.  1943 Copper - ("King of Error Coin", instead of the steel strike famous in 1943, a rare mint error made of bronze)

7.  1944 Steel  (Struck on steel planchets left over from 1943)

8.  1955 Double Die (a misaligned obverse hub, creating a defective die strike)

9.  1960 Small Date (Changing of the decade meant changing the last 2 digits of the date, which were initially smaller until corrected in later runs)

10.  1990 No S Proof (Made for proof sets bearing the S mint mark, the mint mark is missing on these)
